Let Them Drive: Ride Share Passenger

I’m Rahlita Thornton from the Thornton Esquire Law Group, PLLC. How many of you get into a rideshare vehicle and then try to give directions to the driver?

I don’t do that because when I get into a rideshare vehicle, I’m probably half-asleep, and I’m trying to rest and relax. But I’ve been in a car with other people. And as soon as they get in the car, they’re telling the rideshare person where to go and how to go and giving them directions.

Don’t Give Directions To The Driver

But I think it’s unnecessary and unfair. The ride share driver has the directions, and they have capabilities to get that done. It’s a distraction when you’re trying to tell the driver how to maneuver and navigate.

They normally have their phones with the G.P.S. and the navigation.They tell them, step-by-step, how to go, which way to go. And I don’t think they really need our input as passengers. So I think we need to be a little bit more cognizant of the fact that we are distracting the drivers by telling them our directions.

It’s not Safe To Distract The Driver

And that is not a safe thing to do when we’re on the road. As passengers, we need to think about not only the driver being able to pay attention. We need to think about the fact that we are distracting the driver from paying attention. So be cognizant of that and respectful of the driver. Let them navigate. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
