RIDE Share CHATTY KATHY Rideshare Passenger - QUIET!
I'm Rahlita Thornton from the Thornton Esquire Law Group. Today, I want to talk to you about some things that you should do and not do when you're riding in a Lyft or Uber vehicle as a passenger.
Some of the things that we need to be concerned about is that the driver is able to do their job. When you get in the vehicle, you don't know who's going to be driving. So you don't know what kind of driving record they have. You don't know if they drive fast, slow, too slow. I really don't know what they're doing.
Don't Talk Too Much With The DriverSo I would advise you to get in the Lyft or the Uber vehicle and to remain quiet. Don't try to engage in heavy conversation with the driver because they need to focus on the road. After all, you don't have a clue about how this person is going to be driving.
I've been sitting in those vehicles with some of my family members, and they just talk and talk and talk, and I'm thinking, let this man drive this vehicle. Let us get to our destination safely.
Let Them Focus On The DrivingI know that it's nice to have a conversation with people to get to know them. But it's not a safe thing to do, especially when you're talking to a stranger who doesn't even know you. So that's one thing that I think that we need to be concerned about when we're sitting in the back seat as passengers or even in the front seat when we're getting rides from these drivers.
I think ridesharing is great. The whole idea of being able to summon somebody to your home or to your place of business and get a ride without driving is great. But we do need to be careful when we're doing that.
Avoid Loud Phone ConversationsThe other thing that we need to be careful about is texting and talking on our own cell phones when we're passengers of Uber drivers. Remember, the drivers need to focus on the road. And if we're back there, having loud conversations on our phones, that's a distraction to the driver. So if we want to stay safe, we need to think about those things.
I know that being pleasant is one thing. But trying to have a party in the back seat of the car while the driver is trying to get you to your destination, that's an entirely different thing. So please be a little bit more cognizant of those things when you are a passenger in a Lyft or an Uber.
If you have any questions or concerns, or any comments or funny stories to share about being in a rideshare vehicle, feel free to reach out to let us know about it.
